I am not a priest. But I did think of becoming one once — before I left the Roman Catholic Church. Still, I help manage the website of a group of married Catholic priests (take note, they’re not ex-priests). It was my role as the administrator of the www.marriedpriests.com.ph that I got a letter addressed to “Fr. Max.”
I am a copy editor of Sun.Star Cebu, a newspaper in Cebu City, Philippines. I am also a section editor for the paper, handling the weekly Cybercafe page. On top of these tasks, I am also the paper’s online editor. As Sun.Star Cebu online editor, my responsibilities are limited to the content of Sun.Star Cebu, a member of the Sun.Star Network Online. I am not involved in the technical aspects of running the website although I send suggestions once in a while — credit goes to the Sunnex team.
I was born in the then sleepy town of Polomolok, South Cotabato, where I spent the first 16 years of my life.
I am a member of the UP Brotherhood of the Filipinos 1955 and a founding member of UP Politica. I started in journalism with The Freeman, covering the City Hall beat before being named a copy editor. I transferred to The Independent Post, a newspaper owned by a cooperative. The Post later closed for lack of funds and I was among the last to stay on with the paper.
After the Post, I transferred to Sun.Star Cebu in 1999 and have been with the paper ever since. I am married to a very wonderful woman and we have two equally wonderful sons.
The postings on this site are my own and don’t necessarily represent my employer’s positions or opinions.

Hi Max,
Usha here from The Star Publications Malaysia. I am a journalist who is currently in Manila specifically at the Ateneo De Manila University completing my summer semester of my MA in journalism.
I need to ask a favour of your good self. I’m doing a paper on citizen journalism and I want to do an email interview with a journalist or editor who is familiar with this topic. I am also doing interviews with malaysian who are into citizen journalism like Malaysiakini and Jeff Ooi, a blogger.I hope you will comply to this request as i would like to provide an interesting perspective of citizen journalism of the two countries. BTW, it is only for academic purposes and not for publication.
Is there any email which I can contact you?
Thanks,
Usha

Hello! I am a reader of Sunstar and a long time Luser”linux User”. I was just wondering if you are hosting your blog in your own computer and if you you are using opensource tools such as LAMP.
Rony // Mar 17, 2007 at 10:35 am
sir, what courses should i take to design professional wordpress themes….
kindly mail me….
Max Limpag // Mar 17, 2007 at 1:35 pm
Hi Ralph,
Sorry I haven’t responded to your question. My site uses a shared hosting account with ASmallOrange. It’s on a LAMP environment. Once of these days, I might become confident with my skills and actually run my own web server.
Rony,
Just look for CSS/XHTML tutorials and then go through my post on how to convert any template into a WordPress theme. I didn’t take any formal courses, I just read tutorials in blogs and websites.

Hey Max. So you are from Cebu. I’m a Cebuano too but now residing in South Dakota USA.
I was wondering if there was ever a Cebuano bloggers meet-up since? If none yet, why not have one? That would be great!
By the way, I used to contribute articles for Sun-Star weekend when I was still in Cebu. Is Maam Irma still there?
The Tarsier // Apr 15, 2007 at 7:55 pm
First of all I’d like to say congrats to Max on winning the Philippine Blog Awards!
I’m moving to the Cebu-Bohol area in a few weeks and will be starting up an internet cafe running various distros of Linux. I was happy to see that there are some Linux users in the area. Please let me know if there are any Linux Meetups or other people interested in getting together and sharing information about GNU/Linux and Free Software/Open Source! Thanks~

Max Limpag // Apr 20, 2007 at 2:18 am
The Tarsier,
Thanks. Let me know also if you get wind of a meetup.
Leylander,
. You have a greta blog, by the way. If you’re anywhere near P. del Rosario in the afternoon, feel free to drop by at Sun.Star. Maybe we can have coffee at the canteen and some blogging talk
Thanks and it’s very ok
Max Limpag // Apr 20, 2007 at 2:32 am
Talksmart,
We’re still trying to organize a Cebu blogger meetup. Yes, Ma’am Erma is still with Sun.Star but she no longer handles Weekend. She’s writing a book on Sun.Star I think and she reviews pages.

Hello Max, read your column Cell Talk today (10 July) & would like to let you know that my company (www.intouch.com.ph) is already capable of making VoIP calls using WiFi enabled cellphones like the Nokia E61 series phones (please see Sunstar 03 May issue on an interview Malou did with me). As a matter of fact, I am currently working with a company that will revolutionize how people access the internet with the use of Wimax. We will not only be giving people broadband accessibility but the appliance to access it as well! Much like getting a post-paid plan from a mobile provider. We plan a soft roll-out by December this year. Boy is PLDT, Smart,Globe, & even Sun in for a Surprise not to mention a run for their money! Should you be interested please feel free to get iNTOUCH with me. Malou or Tita Caballes knows how to reach me. Cheers!

Hi,
Regarding your experiments on using smart bro pre-paid service with linux…. Perhaps you may want to try using ndiswrapper ( it may do the trick) to load the WinXP dirvers on the smart bro modem….
Wine I think still does not support USB devices very well ( if any)….
You may want to try asking a Linux User Group (LUG)
Good luck, Have fun!

Hello Max!
I’m trying to do a wordpress blog and I was searching internet.
I saw your nice site.
I would like to ask you how did you change the color of a specific page only? I saw it is green but the others are black.
Can you please send me the file style.css to examine it or tell me how did you do it?
Thank you very much.
