Darn Explorer

My wife told me the other day that our site wasnt being properly rendered by Internet Explorer. I havent been using Internet Explorer for years and so I wasnt able to spot it. I wouldnt have minded if not for the fact that 40% of those who visit the Cybercafe Experiments use Internet Explorer.

Both my and my wifes sites use the three-column version of Relaxation. Its among the best WordPress themes out there. The themes supposed to render properly in Internet Explorer check out the authors site as well as the recently launched Pinoy Tech Blog. In our blogs case, Explorer only displays two columns.

I went through the links and scripts I placed in the sidebar and took everything out putting them back again one by one and taking out those that caused errors in the layout. Theres still an error prompt in Explorer but at least it renders the columns properly.

  1. Yap. That is always the case with IE. However there are some versions that displays everything properly.

I checked this problem out and found one solution. Make the middle column elastic (no width, only specify the margin) and let both sides(float left & right) with fixed width.

No width should be specified for the header and the footer. The left, middle and right columns handle that.Since the middle is elastic, now matter what size the screen is, everything fits.

    This is just a suggestion.
