www.qipit.com: same stuff, easier to use: no software to install on the phone (just email the photo of your doc to copy@qipit.com or color@qipit.com). I don't think they do biz cards scan though. But how useful is this, really? Anyways, good to see that there are some smart guys all over who put their brains to good use...

No doubt it's a good thing but why should I pay for the 3G data or GPRS when I can just save the captured image and later convert it to what ever. Otherhand OCR would have made it a wonderful application.

Hi Laurie,
As far as I know, any phone with at least a 1-megapixel camera can take photos that can be processed by Scanr. To be able to use the Scanr application, which will allow you to upload photos from the phone itself, you need to have a Java-capable model. You can check http://www.checkmycameraphone.com/ which phones work well with the service.

My husband needs this. He has business cards littered about everywhere. Problem is, he is technologically challenged. So, I am going to have to figure this out for him.

Does Scanr work on any phone with a digital camera? Can you recommend a phone? I have heard from a cell phone salesman that the Samsung A800 does this but it seems too outdated to buy that now. It came out in 2003 I think.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi sir,
That would indeed be great, the scans are very clear as it is and I'm sure they'd do well in OCR scanning. After all, they already process scanned data by turning business card scans into vCard format. Congrats on being a finalist in the Philippine Blog Awards tech category, you deserve to win :-)
